    Fosa

  • Prize No. 1 donated by Soaring USA
is the Jiri Baudis FOSA (complete and ready to fly with electronics and all as below.) This model will be one flown by Tom Kiesling at the Worlds in Germany and after the contest is over, one extremely lucky raffle ticket holder will own one of the best F3B models available in the world today setup by one of our nations most accomplished pilots. If you fly Airtronics radio you will even get Tom’s radio setup to match. (Bob has also kindly promised to swap this model out for an X2 Xplorer if the winner prefers an F3J model.)
The Fosa is the latest creation from a long line of champions produced by Jiri Baudis! The Fosa is like no other, pushing both the limits of design and construction to a whole new level. It was never thought possible for an F3B/F airframe to have such a high aspect ratio of 18.8 while maintaining stiffness. This new model is revolutionizing the scene by showing us all that the impossible is now possible. Dirk Pflug again designed the new section to obtain the best launching possible, and still retain the slippery characteristics needed for speed. The Fosa has a 2.4Ghz friendly nose and nosecone, and the wing is equipped with RDS on the control surfaces, making the linkage tight and slop free linkage, with no exposure outside of the wing (no drag!). The wing connects to the fuselage with Two large Joiners and the wing also has ribs for additional stiffness. The Fosa comes complete with RDS linkage, wiring harness, wingbags, 2 ballast sets (wing+fuse), making for a top quality model!

    Fosa and Xplorer

  • Prize No. 2 donated by Soaring USA
is also a Baudis FOSA (or FOSA Lift) complete and ready to fly with MKS electronics and all. This model will be one flown by Darrell Zaballos at the Worlds in Germany and after the contest is over one extremely lucky raffle ticket holder will own Darrell’s championship model and the championship setup as well. If the winner happens to fly Airtronics radio they will even get Darrell’s radio setup to match. (Bob has also kindly promised to offer the winner a Brand New X2 Xplorer 3.5 or 3.8 if they would prefer an F3J model.)
Wingspan is 128 in. Length is 60.4 in and Weight is 74 oz.
In the last couple of years the Fosa has seen service in many F3J contests during windy events including the recent F3J World Championships in Sth Africa. This model is the perfect choice in windy conditions as it can move around with ease to find the best air while traditional F3J models are floundering in the wind. The bonus is that the Foas will out launch any F3J model as well in big wind. Many rounds of F3J competition have been won with this model as pilots appreciate it’s excellent flying characteristics.

is an SD10G Transmitter system with 10ch Rx. Fast becoming the radio of choice for many world class soaring pilots, the SD-10G is a 2.4GHz 10-channel high-performance digital proportional computer radio control system designed to give both sport and competition pilots a radio that is easy to use, powerful, flexible and yet very affordable. Currently used by many of the US Team pilots and many more sailplane pilots around USA the SD10G uses Airtronics’ reliable 2.4GHz FHSS-3 technology with Safety Link, the SD-10G is ideally suited for competition fixed wing aircraft, sailplanes and helicopters.
The SD-10G features 10 channels, a 10-bit computer and is as much as 10 times faster as some older competition systems. Featuring bullet-proof FHSS-3 (Frequency Hopping Technology), Airtronics 2.4GHz has already gained a reputation as a no-hassle, reliable spread spectrum solution, ‘fairly’ earning Airtronics/Sanwa Engineers, the nick-name “The 2.4GHz Specialists”. We could go on and on, but let’s make it quick and easy. Whether you fly for sport or compete at the highest levels in categories such as F3J Sailplanes, Pattern, IMAC, Scale, Indoor Foam, Micro Helicopters, or 3D (and that’s heli or plank) you’ll get the Advantage. You will see there has never been a radio like this in our hobby, a radio this advanced, this reliable and this fast

    SD-10GCrop1

  • Prize #9 donated by Airtronics
is another SD10G Transmitter system with 10ch Rx. Airtronics has been very generous with their donations and the F3B Team really appreciates their kindness. Team pilots Tom Keisling, David Klein and Darrell Zaballos each use the SD10G exclusively and this transmitter provides everything a contest pilot needs in programming a world class sailplane.
The SD-10G was developed by Sanwa’s best and brightest computer programmers in concert with the most experienced pilots from Sanwa Japan and Airtronics USA. From F3J World Champions to 3D Helicopter Experts, from AMA Hall-of-Famers to Pattern Nats Champs, the team who planned and put together the SD-10G are some of the most dedicated and experienced modelers in the world today. We’ve worked with pilots for more than an year to ensure every detail, every nuance was developed for the modeler, both sport and competitor.
You’ll find the SD-10G is incredibly user-friendly and easy to setup, yet allows for flexibility not found even in radios at twice the price. Sport pilots will find their model easy to setup. Advanced pilots will love the customizable features that truly make this radio unique. As modelers, we know performance is not free, but the team at Airtronics worked hard to ensure the SD-10G offers both industry leading performance and value. And the SD-10G is fast. In our side-by-side tests, we found no other 9- or 10-channel radios to be faster. The Sanwa high-speed computer chip works together with its unique high-performance 2.4GHz RF chip to ensure your inputs are translated at industry-leading speed to the servos. Your servos will feel faster, the radio will respond quicker and you’ll wonder how you ever did without.

    Elf01

  • Prize #36 is an ELF hand-launch sailplane donated by Barry Kennedy and Kennedy Composites.
Manufactured exquisitely by Vladimir Models of the Ukraine – The ELF is a small discus-launch glider ideal for sport flying while on travel or in your neighborhood park. The ELF is based on MIT’s Dr. Drela’s HLG glider design, the Apogee.
Pod – Features a transparent yellow or white injection-molded pod. A custom carbon boom is connected into the pod, on which the receiver battery (a one-cell 240mAh LiPo pack with an integrated charging circuit), two servos and the receiver are mounted on. A removable nose cone allows for easy access to RC components.
Wing – Carbon D-Box construction and carbon-capped balsa ribs combined with a vertical balsa grain spar provide a stout one-piece wing. The wing features the AG series of DLG airfoils designed and refined by MIT’s Dr. Drela. A carbon “T” launching blade that is capable of being installed on either wing, allows for comfortable launches. The wing is professionally covered in Violet, Blue or Red Oracover to provide strength and stiffness.
Tail – The tail surfaces are composed of light-weight foam, which is reinforced with carbon, fiberglass and then vacuum-bagged. A one-gram miniature v-mount allows for the full flying stabilizer to give the pilot infinite pitch control. Carbon push-rods are pre-installed.
Due to it’s low weight, with a scant wing loading of 2.77* oz./sq. ft. ready-to-fly, the ELF is able to sustain flight in the smallest and lightest of thermals.
